What an authorised transport operator is?

Hi again!  Thanks for visiting my site.  Business has been busy!
I wanted to write a little segment on what an authorised transport operator is and why it’s not always wise to go for the cheapest price that you see being offered by a ‘business’ on a  Facebook Community page for instance.

When you request quotes from a transport operator, always ask if they have a BSP number (Booking Service Provider #).  This number is really important as without it, your trip will be uninsured.  If an operator says ‘Oh I’m an uber driver, so am covered’, this is incorrect.  Uber drivers are only covered for the trips that they take with Uber.  They are not legally allowed to take private bookings.

The legal way to conduct a transport business is to be registered with the NSW Point to Point Transport Commissioner.  They are the regulators of our industry.  There are very large fines for people not operating within the rules of NSW Point to Point.  See link : https://www.pointtopoint.nsw.gov.au/what-a-service-provider/booking-service-providers.   We are known as Booking Service Providers and pay $600 per year along with passenger levies to ensure all legalities are followed.   We hope this information has helped!
